How to make money on the net ?

Be a blogger is a way to make money on the internet . YES, it's true !

First of all, you can make money with advertisings.

But not only ! A blogger can live with his blog thanks to his blog itself !
There are a lot of bloggers who become very important people (or bloggers !), like Miss Blabla and Loïc Lemeur (some french examples).
Big companies want them to test their products and to make comments about them. And they do ! They can test very new products (such as CDs, DVDs) or they are invited to concerts etc.
And in a way they are making advertising on their blog.

But that kind of advertising is very well seen by the audience. Indeed the people who surf on the internet, don't consider those opinions as advertising. Thoses sentences look like recommendations.

So let's blog !

Don't be afraid , this book is not dangerous !
In fact this is a book about marketing principles for the internet. If you want to build a businness on the web : you should read that book. Like a BIBLE, this text presents twelve principles :

Podcasting is a new technology : I wrote about it few weeks ago (when I didn't dare to try).

Now I try to record my own podcast : and I succed as you can imagine ! That's why I'm very happy to talk about it !
It's a very funny way to present informations. And special devices are not required ! It's simple and easy to put on a blog.

Hello !

Unfortunately, I did't have so much time to write on my blog ... Too much things to do !!

I had to work with a my english class team on a wiki .... A WIKI is a website where anybody can change and improve the content of the articles, the best example is Wikipedia. In our Wiki we discuss about marketing and new technologies. This Wiki can be presented as an english class exercice (every member of the group post texts on it, and anybody can correct and improve them). But it's not only an exercice ! Indeed we discover that it's a real discussion place. And recently, we decided to open the access to anyone who want to modify anything. This is the WIKI's philosophy .

Astonishment is the key

A lot of philosophers believe that the best way to think is : ASTONISHMENT.
You have to be astonished when you look around you. Don't be blasé !

This philosophical advice can be used in the communication sciences. Indeed in Mr Souchier's opinion (one of my teachers) we have to be surprised of the world and take nothing for granted.

It's not because we have lived and grown with technologies, computers and the Internet, that those things become transparent and evident.
We always have to think about the consequences of those material objects. Virtual life doesn't exist !!

A new class

To learn a language we have to talk. Most people who want to be better in english or in an other language, travel around the world and most of them stay a long time in a foreign country.
That's why I think that a good idea for the English class is to talk together for a long time about anything : what we have done in others courses, what we have found funny on the web etc.
Secondly I think that to improve our level, we should learn by heart some vocabulary. I know that it's an old method but I think that it could work. We could do exercices about vocabulary lists.
Those two methods have to be used together : talk a lot and talk with appropriate words.
To repeat over and over the same words and the same ideas is a good way to learn faster. Like in the others courses : every teacher use the same idea and want us to be aware of certain technologies and utopian views about the web, for example the "web 2.0".

Not so simple

"RSS is a simple XML-based system that allows users to subscribe to their favorite websites." This definition comes from Wikipedia.

As far as I'm concerned, I don't think that it is so simple. Indeed despite the fact that the very majority of websites have RSS feeds, two month ago I didn't know what meant RSS. And I believe that a very majority of the internet users don't know as well.

In the fact, it is simple : simple to use and simple to understand. Indeed it is an other way to present informations and updates. And right now I can see that it is simple to use because I created my Netvibes pages and I put on it the class' RSS feeds.

Are you a cybercriminal ?

The internet is the best place to find criminals. Indeed everybody can be a cybercriminal.
Spamming, using files without the autorisation (like Youtube's files...) are cybercrimes.
You don't have to be a hacker (people who make financial frauds for example by extending existing codes or resources).
Cybercrimes can also be huge theft, for example industrial espionage. In 2005 in France a young chinese girl, who worked in the French company Valeo, stole 30 or 40 files through the intranet.
But cybercrimes is not always against big companies (like Microsoft), it can also be against real people. That is to say people use the internet to blackmail people. For example a british women had attacked her ex-boyfriend during three years by spamming, faked websites revealing that he was gay etc. In january 2005 she had been condemned. This example shows that the internet is an other way to do illegal things.

A new channel : Youtube

As I said previously social networks are the main ingredients of the internet. Youtube is one of those.

Created by three friends (or I must say three Paypal collegues : Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, Jawed Karim) in february 2005, this website permits people to share videos. All kind of videos can be downloaded and uploaded : movies, home-made vidoes, tv clips etc.

The success is huge : the site is ranked as the 10st most popular website, there are 65,000 new videos uploaded per 24 hours, and last but not least in october 2006 Google Inc. announced that it had reached a deal to aquire the company for $USD 1.65 billion.
Besides a lot of traditional media (like CNN) try to copy Youtube. For instance CNN created a website called "I reports", based on the idea of videoblogging.

The key of success comes from the fact that videos are the best ways to communicate and to share ideas.

As far as I'm concerned, I only use it to watch videos, like another tv channel. I didn't know that website before september 2006, so for now I didn't use it really often.

Good bye advertising !

Last week I was at school, and there were a teacher who came to tell us about advertising and new technologies.

It was very useful. Not only we saw some new advertising (viewable only on the internet, like The Hire), but also we learned that : THE TRADITIONAL ADVERTISING IS DEAD !
Indeed for David Slayden the old television adversitising is dying because of the new technologies : the possibilities of recording a movie without the adertising etc.

As far as I'm concerned, I think it is a good news : no more interruption of my favourite soap...

What's your name ? Give me your number ?

On the internet you must give your name and sometimes more personal informations to download some files or to connect to others wabsites. It is known that there's identity theft. Consequently a lot of people are still afraid to buy things on the internet.
It is possible. But nowadays we are very informed about that problem.

Besides the majority of identity theft come from the "real world". That is to say there's more probability to have your identity stolen from your social security number.

I think that identity theft on the internet is a real threat but it is often a pessimistic way to describe the web.

Besides thanks to the SHTTP technology, created in 1994 by EIT (Entreprise Integration Technologies), one can buy and make transactions through the internet with security. Indeed "secure http" gives the information to people who are afraid to give their credit card number that the website is serious and secure.

Your mission should you choose to accept it

On the internet there's billions of pages, millions of informations: how to know what is right and what is false ?

For example you are looking for something special on the internet, but unfortunately you don't know the name of the website (the URL). At that point Google is your best friend, but it can be also your best enemy. Indeed Google offers a lot of answers in a very short time. That is to say there's a lot of useless informations.

Use your insight. Be acute.

Open your eyes

What is the internet ? A huge database of informations or the best way to communicate. Both definitions are right. That's why one can say that the internet is a window opened to the world.
It's easy to meet people, share with them life's experiences. As I said previously social networks are essential in those kind of exchanges (MSN Messenger for example).
By meeting people you become necessarly more comprehensive and tolerant.
The internet is the best expression of what the world can be, despite the fact that a lot of people claim that the web is a virtual world.

Search and find !

One advice : don't get mad ...

When you try to see or hear a folder...be perseverant ! It's not because of your computer. And neither you !
It's just that you don't have the right tools (new version, drivers) ! So go, search and find.
First see if you have Macromedia Flash, it will be easier to see some websites.
Then look in your computer to find Acrobat Reader , in order to read other pages.

But it's just the beginning .

At the begining of the internet (in France especialy), people, who wanted to be connected, had better to bring some tools with them : a clock, a good chair and a bottle of water. They must have a LOT of free time.
You would say that today those problems are behind us ! But no ... You still must have time to take advantage on the internet.
A lot of examples come to my mind, two days ago I had to work with "Word" and not on my blog because of the connection. Despite the fact that a majority of people have a high speed connection, problems remain. We should be patient.

Why is it so hard to speak HTML ?

When you try to create your own blog, you have better to use discipline. Indeed even if every websites which propose blogs creation claim that it can be done in one "clic", actually it is a little bit more difficult.

First of all you have to define a title, but what is a blog's title : the adress or something else ?

Then you must give a login and a password : why ?

You are overwhelmed by questions.

But the most difficult mission is your first post.
Even if you just want to post a text you should better know basis of the HTML language. Indeed sometimes you think that it's impossible to post it, but it's only a tiny little mistake in the HTML version. You have to be careful and disciplined.
And you'd better buy an HTML guide or "Internet for dummies" !

Robin Hood in the internet wood

The creation of the internet was based on the idea of equality and democracy. That's why some people want to defend those notions by illegal ways.

Indeed rippers define themselves as "Robin Hood" because they steal from rich and powerful people (in the internet world : Microsoft, the musical and cinematographic industry) in order to give to poor ones.
The equality and the idea of sharing things (videos, audios...) with FlickR, Youtube and Emule for example are the main theme in a hacker's mouth.

But what is equality ? Is theft a defense of equality ?

Do you want to make english exercices ? No, problem : connect you on the internet. There's a lot of websites which propose grammar lessons, exercices.

Some months ago, I wanted to evaluate my level in English and do exercices. I tried several websites : www.anglaisfacile.com , www.7speaking.com , http://www.e-anglais.com. Some of them are free, others are very expensive. Besides I don't think that it is possible to learn a language without talking and only with exercices.

That's why I decided to learn with my own way, that is to say : reading english newspapers on the internet.

An other means is possible. Indeed the Internet is a world of communities, in which the main language of communication is English. I've got friends, who are "netgamers", that is to say they spend a lot of time on the net playing with people all over the world and thanks to freewares as Teamspeak they can speak easily with their "mates".

Actually the internet is the right place for communication : a lot of people who don't speak the same language are connected. So English is the Esperanto of the internet !

MSN and cie

Finding friends, talking to them, sharing with them videos and photos : that's the reality of web.
Thanks to Flickr, Youtube, MSN Messenger and all the communication means , people create social links.

This virtual life is the future, but, when I say virtual, I mean with real people . Internet technologies connect people.

But this notion of "social networks" is not so new. Indeed it was created en 1954 in order to describe communities links. People always wanted to meet others, but nowadays you belong to a community not only because it's your family, but because you have the same hobbies, the same ideas, the same passion.

Those tools, those social networks can be used for professional issues. Groupware and Knowledge Management help workers to share their knowledge and to discuss about the problems.

The scene takes place in the United States Senate : some senators writed remarks about the telecommunications industry and introduced the notion of "web neutrality".

Network neutrality is the idea that the companies that own the broadband pipes should not be able to configure their networks in a way that plays favorites--allowing them, for example, to transmit their own services at faster speeds, or to charge Web content and application companies a fee for similar fast delivery.

But the senators voted against. Consequently, on one side big companies could buy rapidity access for their own pages, and on the other side little ones (like me) should get the scraps.
In other words the democratic myth of internet is

Fighting against hackers is the leitmotiv of the recording industry and that the purpose of the DRM technology.

Indeed the Digital Rights Management is used to protect the copyright holders. But it's not only a copy protection.
Actually that technology offers to the recording industry several means : the users can only listen, they can download but only one time ... But as every informatic process, it would find (or has already) his hacker.

But for the rest of the world (that is to say people who aren't hackers) this technology change the music and video use.
And DRM opponents argue that the presence of DRM infringes private property rights and restricts a range of normal user activities. A DRM component would take control over the rest of the user's device which they rightfully own.

Few years ago when you said that you had a personal website, people were surprised and said : "What are you writing on it ? Why do you want to tell about your personal life ? "

But nowadays publishing a blog or having a myspace's page is normal. That is to say people who don't have one are stranger.

Social network is the most important development on the web in the last six months. Belonging to a community and communicate about it is becoming the most important thing on earth...

According to me, I used to be pessimistic about that new habit, but I have to say that today I would like to belong to that bloggers' community.
Besides thanks to Flickr and Youtube, it's easy to create a lovely and dynamic website.

The iPod revolution

The iPod is not only a device to listen music but it is also a revolution maker !

Indeed the expression "podcast", which means free audio and video braodcasting, comes from the word iPod. Like radio, the term podcast can mean both the content and the method of delivery.

This method is used in every medias websites, like France 2, Radio France (to quote the french ones !) . The consequence of this habit : the end of the programmation politics as we know on television.

A podcast is distinguished from other digital audio formats by its ability to be downloaded automatically using software capable of reading feeds like RSS or Atom.
