As I said previously social networks are the main ingredients of the internet. Youtube is one of those.
Created by three friends (or I must say three Paypal collegues : Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, Jawed Karim) in february 2005, this website permits people to share videos. All kind of videos can be downloaded and uploaded : movies, home-made vidoes, tv clips etc.
The success is huge : the site is ranked as the 10st most popular website, there are 65,000 new videos uploaded per 24 hours, and last but not least in october 2006 Google Inc. announced that it had reached a deal to aquire the company for $USD 1.65 billion.
Besides a lot of traditional media (like CNN) try to copy Youtube. For instance CNN created a website called "I reports", based on the idea of videoblogging.
The key of success comes from the fact that videos are the best ways to communicate and to share ideas.
As far as I'm concerned, I only use it to watch videos, like another tv channel. I didn't know that website before september 2006, so for now I didn't use it really often.
